The Queensland government will commit $100 million for aviation attraction – to be matched by the airline sector – to help bring tourists back to the Sunshine State when international borders open next month.
Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the $200 million deal has been struck with four international airports in Queensland – Brisbane, Gold Coast, Townsville and Cairns.
“This will make sure we’re right on the front foot to deliver for the tourism sector in this state,” he said.
The tourism and travel sector has been decimated by the border closures since early 2000.
Even when borders open Queensland will not recover the Chinese market – Australia’s number one source market – because it is still shut off from the world.
