MORE HELP FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES WHO EXPERIENCE PREGNANCY LOSS

Women and families who suffer the trauma of miscarriage, pregnancy loss and stillbirth will have more support, thanks to a $2 million investment under a re-elected Liberals and Nationals Government.

The funding will include over the phone, in-person and online support services for bereaved women and families, including grief counselling.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced today that accredited organisations will be able to apply for the additional funding as early as mid-2023, to support and expand their vital services.

“It is hard to fathom the anxiety, panic and utter devastation a woman would experience when told her baby has died,” Mr Hazzard said.

“Fathers and families all too often also experience tremendous sadness, often in silence, so to have an informed and compassionate support service to manage that loss is vital.”

Figures show around 110,000 women have a miscarriage each year while more than 2,000 will endure the devastation of stillbirth.

Minister for Women, Regional Health and Mental Health, Bronnie Taylor said the funding will ensure wherever you are in NSW, counselling and support is close by.

“Recovering mentally, emotionally and physically from pregnancy loss takes time and for many, that helplessness and upset can be long-term,” Mrs Taylor said.

“It is vitally important the grief and loss for men and women is managed sensitively and professionally in their own time and in a supportive environment.”
