The NSW Liberal and Nationals Government charges ahead with the next stages of Sydney Metro West following the signing today of two major contracts that will deliver essential equipment and systems across the project.
More than 60 lifts, 140 escalators and 1300 CCTV cameras have been secured for Sydney Metro West as part of the Systems Frameworks packages.
Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said both contracts are essential essential to delivering a world-class, fully-accessible metro railway for Sydney.
“We’re building this mega project mostly deep underground, and we need this infrastructure to get commuters to these stations and to help keep them safe, secure and informed while travelling,” Mr Elliott said.
“We’re still signing major contracts to benefit western Sydney while Labor are turning their backs on the west and cancelling important infrastructure projects from Opposition.”
“Sydney Metro is giving people more choice in how they get around Sydney as we deliver a fast, easy and reliable metro railway.”
The Systems Frameworks package, which comprises two framework contracts, ensures consistency of products and systems along the entire Sydney Metro West alignment.
As part of the first contract worth $88.5 million, Schindler will design, supply, install and maintain about 60 lifts and 140 escalators for the nine new Sydney Metro West stations between the CBD and Westmead.
“Sydney Metro is a fully accessible railway – there are lifts at all stations, level access between platforms and trains and no more steps into trains,” Mr Elliott added.
The second contract worth $186.9 million, awarded to Honeywell: includes the design, supply, installation and maintenance of other systems including:
Public Address Systems with about 8000 speakers to keep customers informed at all times;
Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV System) to ensure safe, fast and reliable services, with about 1300 cameras across the alignment;
Passenger Information Display Systems providing about 120 display boards with up-to-date trip information;
Fire Detection Systems to ensure safety across the alignment;
Building Management Control Systems to supervise operation of the Sydney Metro West stations; and
Electronic Access Control Systems to manage staff security access to operational areas of the stations.
Sydney Metro West will double rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, transforming Sydney for generations to come. This once-in-a-century infrastructure investment will have a target travel time of about 20 minutes between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, link new communities to rail services and support employment growth and housing supply.
