Major construction has begun on the $630 million Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment, with work now underway on a new multi-storey car park.
The car park will be built at the southern end of the hospital campus and provide more than 450 spaces for patients, visitors and staff.
Hindmarsh Construction has been appointed to deliver the project following planning approval and a competitive tender process. Construction will continue throughout 2026, with completion expected in 2027.
New parking to support hospital expansion
The new car park will include pedestrian connections to Fairfield Hospital and the neighbouring Braeside Hospital.
Rooftop solar panels will support its operation, while the façade has been designed to complement the existing hospital and surrounding landscape.
Earlier works to expand ground-level parking areas have already been completed and those spaces are now being used.
The temporary increase in parking capacity is intended to minimise disruption as construction progresses across the hospital campus.
Five-storey clinical building still in design
The broader redevelopment will include a new five-storey clinical services building connected to the existing hospital through a new main entrance and drop-off area.
Current plans propose:
- A new and expanded Emergency Department
- An Intensive Care Unit
- Medical Imaging
- Operating theatres
- Inpatient wards
Some existing departments will also be relocated or refurbished.
However, planning and design for the clinical building are still progressing, and the final design has not yet been confirmed.
$630 million investment
The redevelopment is jointly funded, with the NSW Government committing $550 million and the Australian Government contributing a further $80 million towards expanded Emergency Department facilities.
The project is intended to provide modern facilities and expanded services for Fairfield and surrounding communities in south-west Sydney.
The start of the multi-storey car park marks the first major construction package of the redevelopment, while detailed planning continues for the main clinical building.
