New Chief Executive to Lead Sydney Metro

Senior transport leader Camilla Drover has been appointed Chief Executive of Sydney Metro.

Ms Drover brings extensive infrastructure, engineering and commercial experience across both the public and private sectors.

Most recently, Ms Drover led NSW Motorways as interim Chief Executive, including through complex negotiations with Sydney’s private toll road operators.

Her substantive position was Deputy Secretary, Infrastructure, Projects and Engineering at Transport for NSW, prior to which she held more than a decade of leadership roles with major infrastructure contractors.

Ms Drover has more than 25 years of experience in the development, delivery, structuring and financing of roads, public transport and major infrastructure projects.

She will commence as Chief Executive of Sydney Metro on 1 October 2026.

The appointment comes at a significant period for Sydney Metro, with the Southwest Metro in its final stages of testing and two major metro projects under construction in Western Sydney.

The Southwest Metro has completed its intensive five-week Trial Running program involving more than 130 operational scenarios. Testing and commissioning is continuing ahead of final regulatory assessment and accreditation before passenger services commence.

Sydney Metro West is also progressing, with tunnelling completed earlier in 2026 and track installation and fit-out works now underway along the 24-kilometre line between Westmead and Hunter Street.

Construction is also continuing on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line, where all 92 kilometres of track have now been laid and work is progressing on station construction, tunnel and viaduct fit-out, power systems and preparations for train testing.

Minister for Transport John Graham said:

“Camilla is a tenacious and commercially astute infrastructure leader, with a strong track record of delivering projects, solving complex problems and building high-performing teams.

“With Metro Southwest in its final stages of testing and two Western Sydney metros in construction, I’m looking forward to working with Camilla at this critical time of delivery for Australia’s biggest infrastructure project.

“On behalf of the NSW Government, I want to thank Acting Chief Executive Hugh Lawson for the high quality of his stewardship during this pivotal period for Sydney Metro.”
