Albany Wind Farm, near the town of the same name in Western Australia.

Treasurer and Minister for Energy Matt Kean today announced the appointment of Judith Slatyer as chair of the Net Zero Emissions and Clean Economy Board, filling the vacancy created by Dr Kerry Schott AO’s resignation late last year.

Mr Kean also announced a new board member, John Lydon, who brings additional expertise in economics, business and climate change policy to the board.

Mr Kean said these appointments mean the board can continue to provide the Government with advice on NSW climate policy, including plans to reduce emissions by 50 per cent by 2030, 70 per cent by 2035 and reach net zero by 2050.

“Judith Slatyer and John Lydon bring passion and a wealth of experience to the new roles, which will be invaluable for NSW to continue to lead the nation on climate action,” Mr Kean said.

Ms Slatyer has been a member of the board since December 2021. She is also a member of the Organising Committee of the Climate Leaders Coalition and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the CSIRO. Ms Slatyer is a former CEO of the Australian Red Cross, Global COO of WWF and CEO of Lonely Planet.

John Lydon is the Co-Chair of Australian Climate Leaders’ Coalition, Economic Commissioner at Greater Cities Commission, and Industry Professor at UTS. Mr Lydon was a former Managing Partner of McKinsey’s Sydney office.

The board provides advice on the design of the NSW Government’s Net Zero programs and policies, including opportunities for low emissions research and strategies to support industry to decarbonise, while promoting jobs and economic growth.

The board’s membership includes industry experts who bring experience from across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. It was established in December 2021.
