Lake Parramatta’s 2026–27 swimming season begins on Saturday, 24 October, with lifeguards returning to the designated swimming area for the warmer months.
Lifeguards will initially be on duty from 11am to 7pm on weekends, before daily patrols begin from Saturday, 5 December.
Visitors are encouraged to swim only within the designated area while lifeguards are on duty and to follow safety signs and instructions around the lake.
Water Quality Monitored in Real Time
The lake is also being monitored by a solar-powered water-quality buoy known as Sunny, which operates around the clock.
The buoy provides real-time readings including water temperature, dissolved oxygen and pH levels, helping Council monitor changing water conditions and potential water-quality issues.
Visitors are encouraged to check the latest water-quality information before swimming and to remain at least three metres away from the buoy.
Council also advises against swimming for at least three days after heavy rain because water quality and underwater conditions can be affected.
Swimming, Walking and Recreation
Lake Parramatta Reserve covers around 73 hectares and includes a 10.5-hectare lake surrounded by bushland.
Alongside the designated swimming area, the reserve offers walking trails, picnic and barbecue facilities, a playground and non-motorised water activities.
Lake Parramatta reopened for public swimming in 2015, while its swimming area underwent further accessibility and safety upgrades ahead of the 2024–25 season.
Visitors are advised to check current lifeguard patrol times and water-quality conditions before entering the water.
