Minns Labor Government Helping NSW Exporters Seize Opportunities in India

The Minns Labor Government is helping NSW businesses seize opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets through the NSW India Business Literacy Program, providing exporters and businesses with the knowledge, networks and confidence needed to succeed in the Indian market.

The new program will support businesses in the agrifood and clean energy sectors, identified as priority areas under the Australian Government’s Roadmap for Australia’s Economic Engagement with India. It also advances the NSW Trade and Investment Strategy by helping businesses strengthen export capability, diversify trade relationships and expand into high-growth international markets.

As India’s economy continues to expand and demand grows for premium food, clean energy solutions and advanced technologies, the NSW Government is seeking to position local businesses to take advantage of new commercial opportunities.

The NSW India Business Literacy Program will feature a flagship hybrid event in Parramatta on Thursday, 13 August 2026, livestreamed to regional audiences. Participating businesses will hear from government representatives, market experts, exporters and members of the Indian diaspora community.

Following the event, a tailored sector-focused workshop will be delivered in September for a selected group of high-growth potential businesses, providing targeted support to strengthen their readiness to enter and grow in the Indian market.

India is an increasingly important economic partner for NSW. Two-way merchandise trade between NSW and India was valued at $6.87 billion in 2024–25, while more than 28,000 Indian students currently study in NSW.

NSW is also home to more than 200,000 people of Indian heritage, creating strong cultural and business connections that support trade and investment between the two economies.

The program will be delivered in partnership with Asialink Business, with support from the Centre for Australia-India Relations, Austrade and Business Western Sydney.

The initiative also builds on the broader Australia–India trade relationship. The Australia–India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement has been in force since December 2022, reducing or eliminating tariffs on more than 90 per cent of Australian goods exports to India by value.

Minister for Industry and Trade Anoulack Chanthivong said the program would give NSW businesses practical market intelligence and connections to pursue opportunities in India, particularly in agrifood, clean energy and advanced technologies.

The flagship Parramatta event will take place on 13 August, with further sector-specific support to follow in September.
