New Onsite Accommodation Opens for Families at Westmead Children’s Hospital

New onsite accommodation has opened at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, allowing families of seriously ill children to stay closer to treatment and care.

Operated by Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney, the accommodation is located on Level 9 of the new 14-storey Paediatric Services Building, close to the hospital’s cardiac and critical care units.

The new facility can accommodate up to ten families overnight and includes kitchen facilities, grab-and-go meals, a living room, dining area, outdoor terrace and laundry facilities.

Families will also have access to support services including counselling and mental health support.

The facility received $750,000 in funding, including $250,000 from NSW Health, $250,000 matched by the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and a further $250,000 through the NSW Community Infrastructure Grants program.

The accommodation complements the NSW Government’s $659.1 million Stage 2 redevelopment of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and is designed particularly to support families travelling from regional, rural and remote communities.

Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney also operates a separate 60-room facility next to the hospital for families requiring longer stays.

NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said the new onsite accommodation would help reduce the financial and practical burden on families while allowing them to remain close to their children during treatment.
