NEW BOARD TO GROW GREATER SYDNEY PARKLANDS

The first board for the Greater Sydney Parklands Trust has been appointed, to deliver on the Government’s vision of Sydney as a city in a park.

Minister for Cities Rob Stokes said the board brings together a diverse range of expertise, including a stronger voice for First Nations people.

“We’ve appointed a board that reflects the skills needed to care for and grow our finest public parklands,” Mr Stokes said.

“This board will guide decision-making with the support of the community trustee boards appointed for each park, reflecting the views of local communities.

“Our parks and public spaces belong to everyone, and I’ve tasked the Greater Sydney Parklands board with growing and enhancing the more than 6,000 hectares of parklands in their care.”

The Board will continue to be chaired by Mr Michael Rose and includes returning members Dr Robert Lang, Ms Siobhan Toohill, Ms Ceinwen Kirk-Lennox and Ms Julie Bindon. New members include Ms Kaylie Salvatori, Ms Sharon Veale and the new Greater Sydney Parklands CEO Mr Joshua French.

The appointments are in keeping with the new skills requirements for the Greater Sydney Parklands Trust Board, which includes people with experience in community consultation, environmental and conservation management, heritage or heritage management, landscape or park management, governance and risk and financial and property management.

The Members of the Board will serve two and three-year terms.

Greater Sydney Parklands manages more than 6,000 hectares of green space across greater Sydney including Western Sydney Parklands, Parramatta Park, Centennial Parklands, Callan Park and Fernhill Estate.
