Too Blue To Be True: Cultural perspectives on display at NSW Parliament

See Australia through the eyes of Chinese-Australian artists with new exhibition Too Blue To Be True, on display at NSW Parliament House until 22 September.

Reflecting on everything from identity and community to locations and moments in everyday life, the exhibition looks at the interaction between – and melding of – eastern and western cultures, including the contribution of Chinese-Australians to Australian society.

“We have paintings from 24 artists in the exhibition, offering an insight into their extraordinarily diverse experiences as Chinese-Australians,” said Jenny Gu, who has produced Too Blue To Be True on behalf of the Australia Chinese New Arts Society, in collaboration with curator Guan Wei.

“The works draw references from the country’s geography, history, culture and politics, and show the recognition and adoption of Australian values of freedom, democracy and equality.”

The exhibition is being hosted at NSW Parliament by Member for Kogarah and Leader of the Opposition Chris Minns.

“This fantastic showcase of art includes portraits, landscapes and other works all created with the theme ‘Days in Australia’ in mind,” said Mr Minns. “It’s a privilege to host the exhibition here at Parliament, as part of the monthly Fountain Court exhibition program.”
