The NSW Government is prioritising vital road and rail infrastructure repairs across flood and disaster-affected communities to restore access and better withstand future major natural disasters.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the NSW Government was listening to locals.
“I’ve heard loud and clear from impacted communities and local councils while travelling the State that their main priority is to repair and re-open roads,” Mr Farraway said.
“The recently-announced Australian and NSW Governments’ $312.5 million Stage 1 Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Package will ensure roads, bridges and rail assets damaged by floods are repaired or rebuilt and their resilience bolstered.
“The NSW Government has already invested $479 million into Fixing Local Roads (FLR) and Fixing Country Bridges (FCB) over the past three years.
“The next round of our $1 billion FLR and FCB programs will open later this year to provide further opportunities for councils to upgrade local infrastructure.”
In addition, Transport for NSW is finalising the priority round of the Regional Road Reclassification and Transfer program, with $250 million allocated towards fixing urgent cases and network adjustments across NSW.
Submissions for the full round of the Regional Road Reclassification and Transfer program closed on 28 February 2022, and the panel has commenced its assessment process and reporting into this round. The final report into the full round has been delayed to allow Transport for NSW to direct resources where they are needed most in disaster recovery. The final report will be provided to the NSW Government by the end of the year at which point the Panel’s role will be officially completed.
Regional roads and transport infrastructure will continue to benefit from the NSW Government’s record $9 billion investment to deliver a safer, stronger road and transport network, to better connect regional customers with affordable travel, to drive freight productivity on road and rail, and to create thousands of local jobs.
