Summit Capitalises on NSW Investment Strength

The NSW Government is putting the state’s economic strengths and investment opportunities front and centre at the second Sydney Investment Summit on 10 September 2026.

Hosted in partnership with Macquarie Group, the Summit brings together more than 150 leading global institutional capital allocators and investors, Australian superannuation funds, senior political and business figures and leaders from the university sector.

The Summit follows the second annual Australian Superannuation Investment Summit held in the United States earlier this year, where Australian superannuation funds and US institutional investors came together to deepen cooperation.

It also builds on last year’s inaugural Sydney Investment Summit, which brought major institutional investors from North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East together with Australian political and business leaders to promote investment in Sydney and NSW.

This year, the discussion shifts to resilience and how governments and businesses can strengthen economic security and build economies capable of adapting, competing and prospering through global shocks.

NSW’s large and diversified economy, stable regulatory environment and open financial markets are being promoted as strengths in attracting global investment, particularly in:

  • infrastructure;
  • energy; and
  • digital infrastructure.

Premier Chris Minns will deliver the opening address.

Other speakers include:

  • Macquarie Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Shemara Wikramanayake;
  • PIMCO Chief Investment Officer Dan Ivascyn;
  • Man Group Chief Executive Officer Robyn Grew; and
  • HarbourVest Chief Executive Officer John Toomey.

Discussions will examine investment opportunities linked to infrastructure, national security and industrial capability, as well as the commercialisation of research and innovation emerging from Australia’s universities and research institutions.

Delegates will also explore how NSW can better connect its research strengths, investors and institutional capital to turn scientific breakthroughs into global companies, skilled jobs and lasting economic capability.

The Summit follows broader efforts by the NSW Government to attract institutional and international capital.

Last year’s inaugural Sydney Investment Summit formed part of the Citi A50 Forum and brought together more than 100 senior business and political leaders alongside institutional investors from around the world. At the time, the Government also highlighted investment opportunities in areas including housing, infrastructure, digital infrastructure and energy.

Earlier in 2026, Treasurer Daniel Mookhey travelled to the United States for the Australian Superannuation Summit, which was held across San Francisco, Washington DC and New York and focused on strengthening investment links between Australian superannuation funds and US institutional capital.

Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said:

“NSW is the engine room of the national economy and a premium destination for capital. We are viewed by global investors as a safe harbour in times of turmoil. A place to launch and a place to grow.

“The second Sydney Investment Summit is a chance to explore these opportunities for an asset hungry world.

“We have what investors value – a highly skilled workforce, stable rule of law, a leading digital economy and a sophisticated superannuation system to partner with.”
