NSW has reported 35 coronavirus-related deaths today with the dead ranging from their 40s to a person who was over-100.
Eight of those people had received three doses of the vaccine. Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant is also reporting an additional 35 coronavirus-related deaths that date from January 2 to January 20.
All these deaths were from aged care facilities in south-west Sydney with delays in reporting their deaths to blame for only being reported today. In the week up to January 27, 210 people with COVID-19 died, including 192 over-65.
For the deaths of the 18 people under-65 – ranging from their 30s to their 60s – eight were unvaccinated.
Dr Chant also lays out the mix or co-morbidities of the dead, ranging from chronic pulmonary disease, asthma, cancers and obesity. One of the people had a severe mental illness but it is not clarified how this affected their fight against COVID-19.
“We know for the greatest protection against the omicron variant we need that third dose,” Dr Chant says.
