Qld cases to peak in the next two weeks

Palaszczuk said the peak of the omicron wave was expected in Queensland in the next fortnight.

“We expect that these next two weeks are very critical in terms of reaching that peak of the omicron wave,” she said.

Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said the level of hospitalisations from COVID-19 was lower than originally modelled.

“We were certainly anticipating several thousand in hospital. We currently have 878 in hospitals at the moment,”

“But the peak does not mean the end. It’s just the high point.”

Gerrard said he expected an “extension of the peak” when schools returned on February 7.
