NSW Ambulance Welcomes 18 Interstate and Overseas Paramedics

NSW Ambulance has welcomed a new intake of 18 experienced paramedics from interstate and overseas as part of ongoing recruitment for frontline services across metropolitan and regional New South Wales.

The latest group includes paramedics from the United Kingdom and New Zealand, as well as qualified recruits from other Australian states.

Experienced Recruits Join NSW Ambulance

Unlike graduate paramedic interns, the new recruits have previous professional experience with other ambulance or emergency medical services.

They have completed an induction program at the NSW Ambulance Education Centre, covering the organisation’s clinical systems, operational procedures and local requirements.

The group will now begin operational familiarisation before moving into frontline roles across NSW.

Around 150 Recruited Since 2023

Since March 2023, around 150 qualified paramedics have joined NSW Ambulance after previously working interstate or overseas.

NSW Ambulance has used these recruitment pathways alongside its local graduate and specialist training programs to increase workforce numbers and bring experienced clinicians into the service.

A previous intake in September included 16 paramedics from countries including the UK, Canada, the United States and New Zealand, who then undertook on-road training across the state.

International Experience Among Latest Cohort

Among the latest recruits is Mitchell Pani, who most recently worked for the London Ambulance Service and has also worked as a paramedic in Mexico.

NSW Ambulance said interstate and international recruitment can add clinicians who are already familiar with frontline emergency care but bring experience from different health systems and operating environments.

Part of Broader Workforce Recruitment

The intake comes alongside other NSW Ambulance recruitment and training programs.

In September, the service inducted 62 new paramedic interns and 19 emergency medical call takers, while additional specialist paramedics have also been deployed during 2026.

The latest 18 recruits will now continue their familiarisation before being integrated into ambulance operations across metropolitan and regional NSW.
