Booster doses ‘critical’: Foley

Victoria’s Health Minister Martin Foley is providing a COVID-19 update after the state reported 8577 new cases.

There are 491 Victorians in hospital and 104 people in intensive care, of which 24 are on a ventilator, said Foley. There were three more deaths from the virus over the past 24 hours.

Foley said the level of protection from a booster dose was “critical” for helping the state manage the omicron outbreak.

More than 10 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and above have had their third dose. One million more Victorians will become eligible for their third dose tomorrow, when eligibility expands to people who had their second vaccination at least four months ago.

Foley said there would be a scale up at state run clinics to ensure 300,000 Victorians can get vaccinated every week.

From Wednesday, 28 state run booster pop up vaccination clinics will open across Victoria.
