Flight Centre says 1Q was challenging

Flight Centre says its profit for the first four months of the financial year has been “well down” on the same time last year, even as total transaction value has increased.

“Our challenge so far this year has been translating solid top-line growth to the bottom line,” managing director Graham Turner told the company’s annual general meeting on Thursday.

Flight Centre blamed disruptions in the Australian leisure business; a significant downturn in visits to the Dominican Republic after several tourist deaths; Brexit related uncertainty in the UK; and unrest in Hong Kong.
