Finlaysons Creek Trail Reaches Design Milestone

A major missing link in Western Sydney’s pedestrian and cycling network is a step closer, with concept designs for Stages 2 and 3 of the Finlaysons Creek Trail now approved.

City of Parramatta Council endorsed the final concept designs at its meeting on 10 August 2026, following community consultation earlier this year.

The project will provide a continuous and accessible walking and cycling connection between Shannons Paddock and Lytton Park in Wentworthville, helping complete the missing link between the M4 Shared Path in the south and the Norwest T-Way Shared Path, Milson Park and Parramatta Park in the north.

The approved design includes new seating, bike parking, a bike repair station, improved wayfinding, landscaping and additional tree planting along the Finlaysons Creek corridor.

Following community feedback, the design was strengthened with eight additional trees and further native vegetation planting, taking the total new tree planting to more than 60.

The trail will also provide a new connection beneath the Main Western Rail Line, improving access between neighbourhoods in Parramatta and Cumberland and creating a safer, well-lit route for pedestrians and cyclists.

Council will now progress detailed design, environmental approvals and technical assessments.

Construction of Stage 1 is planned to begin in September 2026. Stage 2 is expected to be delivered between late 2026 and late 2027, followed by Stage 3 between mid-2027 and mid-2028.

The $14.1 million project is funded by City of Parramatta Council, the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants and Transport for NSW’s Get NSW Active Program.
