Opposition Leader Pulls out of Public Debate in Kogarah

Opposition Leader Chris Minns has pulled out of next Monday’s Meet the Candidate Forum in Kogarah.

Minns had previously committed to attending this Forum, but told organisers yesterday, he would no longer appear.

The organisers have now been forced to postpone the Forum until Thursday 9 March at 7:30pm.

Independent Reform Gambling Candidate for Kogarah Troy Stolz said he now questioned whether Minns would show at all.

“Chris Minns appears to be running scared as he and his party know his stance on gambling reform is woefully short of the mark,” Stolz said.

“His so-called trial of just 500 of the State’s 85,000-plus pokies doesn’t address the billions of dollars of dirty cash the NSW Crime Commissioner identified as going through these machines.

“He keeps talking about an informed decision but is wilfully ignoring all the information in the Crime Commission report.

“What more evidence does Minns need to know there is a huge problem, than a recently published, in-depth inquiry from one of our leading law officials?

“He should not be running scared, he should be standing up for the people of his electorate as well as the people of NSW, by backing the Liberals’ cashless proposal.

“He should be standing up for the vulnerable who need support, not turning his back on them. He should be making it harder for money launderers, not rolling out the red carpet for them.

“He should not be doing the gambling industry’s bidding.”

Stolz said he thought the odds were on Minns not attending the forum on the new date.

“When you shamelessly back vested interest over public interest you know people will see through you,” Stolz said.

“It speaks volumes that the current member for Kogarah won’t even turn up to a candidate forum in his own electorate but will every day spruik the industry’s gambling solution.”
