NSW Opens $4.65 Million Funding Round for Local Sporting Clubs

Community sporting clubs and associations across New South Wales can now apply for a share of $4.65 million through the latest round of the Local Sport Grant Program.

Applications for the 2026–27 funding round opened on 27 July, with grants available to support new sporting programs, equipment purchases and minor facility improvements.

The program is designed to help grassroots organisations attract and retain more participants, improve access to sport and strengthen their long-term capacity.

Grants of up to $20,000 available

Eligible community sporting organisations can apply for grants ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 for individual projects.

A total funding allocation of up to $50,000 is available in each of NSW’s 93 state electorates, ensuring clubs in regional communities, metropolitan suburbs and growing areas can access support.

Funded projects may include the purchase of sporting equipment, upgrades to local facilities and the introduction or expansion of participation programs.

Priority will be given to initiatives that create regular and ongoing opportunities for people to take part in sport and active recreation.

Focus on inclusion and participation

The program also aims to remove barriers that can prevent people from becoming involved in community sport.

Projects may support groups that have traditionally faced lower participation rates, including women and girls, First Nations communities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability and LGBTQIA+ participants.

Funding may also help clubs address practical barriers such as equipment costs, limited facilities and a lack of programs suited to the needs of their local communities.

Building on previous funding

The latest round follows the distribution of $4.49 million to 586 community sport projects across NSW under the previous program.

Those grants supported clubs and associations to deliver new programs, purchase equipment and improve facilities, helping more people participate on sporting fields, courts and in swimming pools across the state.

NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said local sporting organisations and volunteers played an essential role in keeping communities active and connected.

He encouraged clubs with planned projects or participation programs to submit applications and take advantage of the funding opportunity.

Applications for the 2026–27 Local Sport Grant Program close at 1pm on Monday, 24 August 2026.
