A WHITE BAY CHRISTMAS FOR POWER STATION

The Christmas spirit is on display at White Bay Power station, with a three-metre Santa climbing into the 76-metre tall heritage listed chimney visible for all to see.

Minister for Infrastructure, Cities and Active Transport Rob Stokes said the sight of Santa’s boots poking out the chimney will delight the hundreds of thousands of commuters using the Anzac Bridge and Victoria Road as they pass Bays West.

“I understand that Safework NSW are keen to interview a heavyset and bearded elderly man following an incident at White Bay power station,” Mr Stokes said.

“I want to assure all the children that Santa isn’t stuck in the chimneys and that all presents will be delivered on time, and hopefully within the North Pole’s budget.

“With hundreds of thousands of people heading into the CBD or the Sydney Fish Market ahead of the holidays, there’s no better place to spread some Christmas cheer.

“This is a great way to say Merry Christmas to everyone and celebrate the staged remediation of the historic White Bay Power Station, with the final coat of paint now visible on the southern chimney, which we’ve renamed the Santa chimney.”

Placemaking NSW CEO Anita Mitchell said Christmas is a time to celebrate all that’s been achieved at Bays West and have some fun.

“This is an initiative of the team on site, who’ve used their own materials in their own time to share some festive spirit. We hope everyone can have a laugh while seeing the incredible transformation taking place on the shores of Sydney Harbour,” Ms Mitchell said.

Placemaking NSW has recently been appointed as the lead agency to manage the transformation of the entire Bays West Precinct.

They will work with Government and key stakeholders to balance working harbour uses with the Perrottet Government’s objectives to increase affordable housing supply, provide new employment lands, public open space, active transport links and supporting the visitor economy.
