Tehan confident of strong tourism rebound

Tourism Minister Dan Tehan is very confident Australia’s market will rebound strongly as the border reopens.

“It’ll depend, obviously, on circumstances but [I’m] very confident that we’re going to see a strong rebound in international tourism,” he said from Sydney Airport.

“This is just another step of getting back to that normality, people travelling overseas but also people from right around the world coming here to visit our wonderful attractions.”

Tehan cited a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this month with India for co-operation on tourism.

He expected a further boost for Australia’s industry when New Zealand fully reopened.

“Family, friends and relatives is the largest component of that market. They’ll want to come and visit those family, friends and relatives again,” he said.
