City of Parramatta has elected 28-year-old Councillor Cameron MacLean as its new Lord Mayor, making him the youngest person to hold the position in the city’s history.
MacLean, who represents the Epping Ward, was elected by fellow councillors at a council meeting on 28 September 2026.
He will serve as Lord Mayor until September 2028.
From Deputy Lord Mayor to City Leadership
MacLean was first elected to City of Parramatta Council in December 2021 and was re-elected in October 2024.
He previously served as Deputy Lord Mayor from June to September 2023 and again from October 2024 to September 2025.
Born and raised in Epping, MacLean attended Epping Public School and Epping Boys High School before completing a Bachelor of Business in Economics and Applied Finance at Western Sydney University.
His council interests have included community infrastructure, open space, youth services, creative arts and live entertainment, as well as managing development and growth across the Epping Ward.
Focus on Parramatta’s Growth
Following his election, MacLean said his priorities would include attracting investment, improving infrastructure and public spaces, and ensuring council services keep pace with Parramatta’s continuing growth.
Parramatta has undergone significant redevelopment in recent years, including new commercial, cultural, transport and education infrastructure.
MacLean said the city should continue strengthening its role as a major business, cultural and innovation centre while maintaining the character of local neighbourhoods.
His term will also cover major events and projects including the continuing delivery of Parramatta Lanes and other city-centre initiatives.
Kellie Darley Elected Deputy Lord Mayor
Council also elected Councillor Kellie Darley as Deputy Lord Mayor.
Darley represents the Dundas Ward and has served on City of Parramatta Council across multiple terms.
She will hold the Deputy Lord Mayor position until September 2027.
Darley said her priorities would include governance, transparency and improving council services for residents and businesses.
New Leadership for Growing Parramatta
MacLean succeeds former Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter, whose term was scheduled to conclude in September 2026.
At 28, MacLean’s election marks a generational shift in the city’s leadership as Parramatta continues to expand as one of Western Sydney’s major population, employment and cultural centres.
He will lead the council through to September 2028, while Darley will serve as Deputy Lord Mayor for the next 12 months.
