Powerhouse Parramatta has revealed its full opening exhibition program ahead of the museum’s official opening on Saturday, 7 November 2026.
The opening program will feature five major exhibitions spanning science, technology, engineering, design, First Nations knowledge and contemporary art. All exhibitions will be free for visitors under 16 years of age.
The $915 million Powerhouse Parramatta project includes the new museum, a collection storage facility at Castle Hill, and the digitisation and preservation of more than 371,000 objects from the Powerhouse Collection.
The project’s original philanthropic target of $75 million has also been exceeded, with $80.28 million secured through philanthropic contributions.
The five opening exhibitions will showcase more than 3,000 objects, including more than 1,600 from the Powerhouse Collection, alongside loans and new commissions from Australia and around the world.
The Dark is an immersive exhibition designed for children aged four to 12, featuring more than 800 objects, First Nations animations and objects contributed by children from across Western Sydney.
Es Devlin: The Turning will present five major works by British artist Es Devlin, marking the first major Australian presentation of her work.
Overflow is a First Nations-led exhibition exploring the importance and care of saltwater and freshwater systems across NSW through collaborations with Aboriginal organisations and filmmaker Ivan Sen.
Task Eternal will explore humanity’s ambition to defy gravity and take flight, featuring objects including a historic Qantas Avro 504K aircraft, Leonardo da Vinci drawings, a NASA Moon rock and an immersive work by artist James Turrell. The exhibition will be ticketed, but free for visitors under 16.
The Mall will explore the history and cultural significance of shopping centres across two storeys, featuring objects including Levi’s 501 jeans worn by Steve Jobs, early barcode designs, arcade machines and a bitcoin mining rig.
Powerhouse Parramatta will open to the public on 7 November 2026 as Western Sydney’s first NSW state cultural institution.
