Firefighters, SES personnel and Marine Rescue volunteers are among the first responders recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience and Minister for Flood Recovery Steph Cooke congratulated each recipient of an Australian Fire Service Medal, Emergency Services Medal and Order of Australia.
“The events we’ve experienced over the past few months and years, whether it be unprecedented flooding, the COVID-19 pandemic or Black Summer bush fires, have pushed our emergency services personnel to the limit,” Ms Cooke said.
“Despite the unrelenting challenges they continue to face, these brave men and women selflessly put their own lives on the line to protect people and property from a range of hazards and threats.
“Being named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List is one of the greatest professional and personal achievements of a lifetime, and I sincerely congratulate each of our first responders receiving an Australian Fire Service Medal, Emergency Services Medal or the Order of Australia today.
“Our emergency services personnel don’t do it for the accolades but they are well and truly deserving of our gratitude.”
