NSW 30,825 cases Victoria 21,966 cases ; hospitalisations fall

NSW reported 30,825 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday while 25 people died from the virus over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the number of people in hospital fell by 82, taking the total number of COVID-19 patients to 2781. There are 212 people in intensive care, down from 217 on Wednesday.

It is the first time the number of people in hospital has declined since mid-December.

There are 278,324 active COVID-19 cases in the state, down from a peak of 342,838 on January 16.

Victoria reported 21,966 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday and 15 more deaths.

The number of people in hospital increased to 1206. There are also 122 people in intensive care and 40 people on ventilators.
