NSW reported a record 21,151 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, surpassing Thursday’s record by almost 9000.
Six people died from the virus over the past 24 hours.
The number of people in hospital increased to 763 from 746 and the number of people in intensive care increased to 69 from 63.
Of the 148,410 tests taken over the past 24 hours, a record 14.3 per cent yielded a positive result for the virus.
Victoria reported a record 5919 COVID-19 infections on Friday while seven more people died from the virus.
The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 increased to 428 from 395, while the number of people in intensive care fell to 54.
Of the 66,774 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, 8.9 per cent returned a positive result.
