Victorian health authorities report that three new confirmed cases of the COVID-19 omicron variant have been identified in the state, all of whom are linked to a flight arriving in Melbourne from Dubai on November 30.
Two of the new positive cases are returned travellers who were on the flight. The other new case is a household contact of a previously confirmed case.
That brings to six the number of confirmed omicron cases in total. Genomic sequencing is underway to confirm the variant for nineother probable cases who have tested positive for COVID-19.
It comes as NSW health authorities have confirmed that NSW’s total infections of the omicron variant are now at 85 but more are expected. NSW recorded 804 new locally acquired infections today but NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the state wasn’t planning to backflip on the end of lockdowns ahead of restrictions easing tomorrow.
The state has not recorded more than 800 cases since October 2, at the tail end of the delta outbreak that sparked lockdowns across Australia.
