Traffic levels in Sydney and Brisbane are back to pre-COVID-19 levels, according to Transurban chief executive Scott Charlton.
Speaking at The Australian Financial Review Infrastructure Summit, Charlton says the pandemic had accelerated existing trends like working from home, but the economy was quickly bouncing back.
“You say some things are different, but the more they are the same,” he says.
“To some extent when you get through the crisis you will get through some level of normalcy.“
Charlton says traffic levels in Sydney and Brisbane were already back to pre-COVID-19 levels as there was hesitancy towards returning to public transport.
Infrastructure Australia chief executive Romilly Madew says the pandemic provided challenges but also opportunities.
“I think the opportunity for Australia is we need to adapt, we need to be nimble,” she says.
