No new COVID cases in NSW community

There have been no further cases of COVID-19 linked to the three infections linked to a Sydney quarantine hotel.

No local cases were diagnosed in the 14,049 tests undertaken in the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday, NSW Health said on Thursday.

Since the weekend there have been three genomically linked cases of local transmission associated with the Sofitel Wentworth Hotel, involving a security guard and two returned travellers.

Investigations are continuing into how the virus passed between the three people.

Close contacts of the security guard, including his household contacts, have all tested negative to date and will continue to self-isolate for 14 days.

Ongoing testing of staff at both quarantine hotels where the security guard worked has identified no additional cases. No other returned travellers on the same floor of the Sofitel Wentworth have tested positive date.

Meanwhile, the NSW government has flagged a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Standing up while drinking in bars and clubs is now allowed and caps on numbers allowed to attend weddings and funerals will be the next to go.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet on Wednesday promised also signalled more support for Sydney’s CBD and live music was on the way.

The government wants the same rules to eventually apply across all settings, whether people were at a wedding or the pub.
