AI monitor gets Pizza Hut green light

Pizza Hut has backed the roll out of an artificial intelligence platform that will be snapping pictures and analysing images of its pizzas as they come out of the oven across its Australian outlets.

ASX-listed Dragontail Systems said on Friday that master franchisee Pizza Pan Group will install the Algo Platform – technology that uses a camera set above the cutting board to assess correct toppings, an even spread of ingredients, and temperature – at 250 Pizza Hut stores across the country.

Pizza Hut said it planned to go ahead with using the system after “very positive results” in trials.

“Cutting-edge technology, such as Dragontail’s, will be a key enabler in propelling Pizza Hut Australia into the next phase of sustained business growth,” Pizza Hut chief information officer Wayne McMahon said on Friday.

The Israeli-based Dragontail Systems also tested its technology with Australian rival Domino’s in 2016.
