ASIC proposes car dealer add-ons reform

The corporate watchdog has car dealers in its sights, inviting public reaction on proposed reforms to add-on sales.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission released a consultation paper on Tuesday, putting forward the idea of a deferred sales model for add-on insurance and warranties.

Under the proposed model, car yards wouldn’t be allowed to sell add-on products to new buyers right away, aside from comprehensive or compulsory third party insurance.
