New metro ‘exceeds expectations’: premier

Sydney’s new north west metro helped reduce traffic by more than one per cent in its first month – which the NSW premier says “exceeded expectations”.

The state government on Wednesday announced more than 1.8 million journeys had been completed on the multi-billion project during its first month of operation, equating to 20,000 fewer cars using the congested M2.

“That’s exceeded our expectations to date,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters in Sydney.

“Please note that even a reduction in one per cent traffic has massive travel time savings for residents, has massive congestion busting impacts.”
