Rouse Hill Hospital Reaches Foundation Milestone as $910 Million Project Advances

Construction of the new $910 million Rouse Hill Hospital has reached a major milestone, with piling works for the building’s foundations now complete.

More than 220 foundation piles have been installed across the site in Sydney’s northwest, while a new fly-through animation has been released showing the planned inpatient, outpatient, maternity and clinical areas.

The hospital is being jointly delivered by the NSW and Australian governments and is intended to expand local access to emergency, maternity, paediatric, renal and other hospital services.

Early Works Continue Ahead of Main Construction

Lendlease has been appointed as the early works contractor and began preparing the site earlier in 2026.

The completion of piling marks the end of a key foundation stage, but the project has not yet entered its full main construction phase.

The main works construction contract is expected to be finalised by the end of 2026, with the detailed construction timetable to be confirmed after that appointment.

Maternity Services Add $210 Million to Project

The hospital will include comprehensive birthing and maternity services following an additional $210 million joint funding package announced in 2025.

That includes:

  • $90 million from the NSW Government
  • $120 million from the Australian Government

The additional funding increased the total project investment to $910 million.

The maternity facilities will include birthing rooms, a maternity inpatient unit and antenatal and postnatal services.

Emergency, Paediatric and Renal Services Planned

The current hospital scope includes:

  • An emergency department
  • Inpatient beds
  • Day surgery
  • Short-stay medical assessment services
  • Comprehensive maternity and birthing services
  • Paediatric outpatient care
  • Renal dialysis
  • Pathology and pharmacy
  • Medical imaging
  • Virtual care
  • Hospital in the Home
  • Rehabilitation and lifestyle medicine.

The newly released fly-through also shows treatment areas designed to increase access to natural light, including parts of the paediatric and renal units.

Up to 700 Parking Spaces

A multi-storey car park with up to 700 spaces is planned as part of the hospital development.

A new pedestrian and cycling connection will also run south of the site, linking the hospital with Rouse Hill Town Centre and Rouse Hill Metro Station.

The hospital is being developed at the corner of Commercial Road and Windsor Road, close to existing retail and public transport.

Windsor Road Upgrades to Support Hospital Access

Road infrastructure around the hospital will also be upgraded in conjunction with Transport for NSW.

The planned works include upgrades to Commercial Road and Windsor Road, additional road capacity, bus infrastructure, intersection improvements and shared walking and cycling paths.

These works are intended to support hospital access as residential development continues across Sydney’s northwest.

New Hospital Could Reduce Travel to Westmead and Blacktown

NSW Health estimates more than 17,000 patients from the Rouse Hill area currently present at Westmead and Blacktown hospitals each year.

The new hospital is intended to allow more of those patients to receive care closer to home while reducing some demand on existing Western Sydney hospitals.

The project will form part of the Western Sydney Local Health District network once operational.

Design Shaped by Community and Clinical Consultation

More than 200 staff and clinicians have been involved in consultation on the hospital design, alongside community engagement sessions.

The design process has informed areas including clinical layouts, maternity services, patient spaces and access arrangements.

The project has now moved beyond initial site preparation, but the timing of the full main works program and hospital opening will depend on the award of the main construction contract and subsequent delivery schedule.
