The NSW Government has opened a third round of its Washing Machine Exchange Program, making another 6,000 discounted appliances available to eligible households.
The program allows eligible pensioners, veterans, social housing tenants and low-income households to exchange an inefficient top-loading washing machine for a new 8kg water and energy-efficient front-loader for $250.
The subsidised package includes delivery anywhere in NSW, installation, removal and recycling of the old machine, and a two-year warranty, with the program delivered in partnership with The Good Guys Commercial.
The government estimates participating households can save around $300 a year through reduced water, electricity and detergent use, as well as approximately 20,000 litres of water annually.
Almost 12,000 households have already taken part in earlier rounds of the $11 million program, with the government estimating they have collectively saved around 233 million litres of water.
Demand has been strong, with the previous two rounds exhausting their available allocations within about a week.
Eligible applicants must have an existing top-loading washing machine to exchange and meet the program’s concession or low-income eligibility requirements.
The third round is now open and will remain available until all 6,000 washing machines have been allocated.
