“WE HAVE AN ENERGY CRISIS”: PREMIER FINALLY ADMITS TRUTH AS LABOR’S ENERGY ROADMAP IMPLEMENTATION UNRAVELS

The Premier’s admission today in Question Time that “we have a fuel crisis and an energy crisis in New South Wales” is an insult to the households and businesses across the state who have been bearing the consequences of that crisis for years.

For three years, the Minns Labor Government has claimed the energy transition was on track and today the Premier finally admitted what every household and business in NSW already knows: Labor’s energy rollout is a mess.

Renewable Energy Zones (REZs), including Central West-Orana and the New England REZ, are mired in delays and cost blowouts, with completion dates pushed further into the late 2020s.

Shadow Minister for Energy James Griffin said the Minns Labor Government should be honest about the pressure and problems with their implementation of the NSW Energy Roadmap.

“The Premier’s unscripted honesty reveals a government that is not up to the job of managing the state’s energy system for today and into the future,” Mr Griffin said.

“This government promised lower bills, yet under their watch, energy costs have skyrocketed while the transition has stalled.”

“The Premier’s energy crisis is a direct result of a government that is big on targets but incompetent on delivery and unwilling to listen to industry stakeholders or communities.”

James Griffin said AEMO has been clear that replacement energy generation must be delivered “ahead of announced closures” of coal to maintain reliability while Labor lives week to week.

“We need a government that will be honest about the increased costs and delays of the energy transition, not one that simply blames everyone else,” Mr Griffin said.
