NSW LIBERAL GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT NEPALESE CULTURAL EVENTS AND FESTIVALS

Liberal candidate Craig Chung welcomes today’s announcement that in the next term of Government, the NSW Liberal Government will invest $90,000 into Nepalese community groups and organisations to help celebrate their culture.

“The Nepalese community is becoming a vital part of Kogarah’s diversity.” Mr Chung said.

“It gives me great joy to see the Perrottet Government acknowledging the growing Nepalese community and contributing to their cultural celebrations.”

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said the Nepalese community is rapidly growing across Sydney. The Government’s support will ensure that Nepalese food, art and music scene remains supported in NSW.

“The Nepalese are among one of the fastest growing communities here in NSW, and we want to help support and make them feel welcome by empowering them to celebrate their culture. The festival of Dashain will now have the financial support it deserves,” Mr Perrottet said.

Minister for Multiculturalism and Member for Oatley Mark Coure said the Nepalese community has become a strong part of the state’s rich multicultural society.

“We have seen a booming Nepalese community that are attracted to our local area because of the opportunities that are available to them, and in finding a home here, they have wasted no time making contributions to make it an even greater place to live,” Mr Coure said.

“Events and festivals are a great way to bridge gaps and foster understanding between people, and by investing $22,500 a year for four years, we will be helping the Nepalese community connect with their new home and share their culture with everyone.”

Mr Coure added the NSW Liberals want to help the Nepalese community continue to connect with their culture and share it with others.

“We believe community organisations should be empowered to celebrate and share their culture, and one way we help do that is through community investments such as this one,” Mr Coure said.
