Last night, the Combined Rail Unions (CRU) made an application to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) against Sydney Trains and NSW Train Link (the Rail Entities) seeking to continue the bargaining process for a new Enterprise Agreement.
In total, union bargaining delegates have been released from work for 50,000 paid hours of negotiations, equivalent to 6,250 days of work. It is the view of the NSW Government that there has been exhaustive consideration of all of the CRU’s claims and we are in a position to proceed towards a vote of employees.
The matter is now listed for hearing before FWC on Tuesday, 6 September 2022. No further action will be taken by the Rail Entities, before the current matter is heard by the FWC.
The NSW Government has always negotiated in good faith and made countless concessions to the unions throughout bargaining. In return, the Government simply expects an end to the strikes.
It is apparent that this application to the FWC is a delaying tactic by rail unions that are adamant on blocking a vote of employees and on dragging out these negotiations so that they can continue their political campaign of disruptive strikes.
The NSW Government respects the process and procedures of the FWC and awaits the outcome of proceedings.
