Victoria records two new cases of omicron

Two new cases of omicron and several suspected cases of the new variant have been detected in Victoria.

Both were returned travellers who landed in Melbourne from Dubai on November 30, 2021.

Genomic sequencing is under way to confirm if a third COVID-positive person on the flight is carrying the omicron variant.

Including the two cases announced today, there are just three cases of the omicron variant in the state, including a returned traveller who was previously identified while in hotel quarantine.

All other potential contacts who recently arrived in Melbourne on the same flight have been contacted and asked to get a PCR test for COVID-19.

The state recorded 1206 new cases of COVID-19 today.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s budget has blown out by $7.9 billion, largely because of additional government support responding to the delta wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
