NSW is reporting six new cases of the omicron variant of COVID-19 among a total of 260 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday.
No one has been hospitalised with the new strain.
NSW is also reporting two deaths, a woman in her 90s who was fully vaccinated and was infected at a Sydney aged care home. Another was a man in his 90s who was unvaccinated and died in hospital.
The new omicron infections are linked to a cluster in Sydney’s south-west involving Regents Park Christian School, St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School in Regents Park, and the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym in Villawood.
This cluster now involves 20 cases of the omicron variant, the bulk of the state’s 31 infections of that strain.
The cluster is believed to be linked to a returned traveller who arrived in Sydney last month after spending time in Nigeria.
