As expected, Greg Hunt is speaking in the House of Representatives, confirming his plans to retire at next year’s election.
Hunt tells MPs he is proud at the government’s performance during the COVID-19 crisis. He says the country is “well prepared for the future.“
Hunt’s staff and his wife Paula are in the gallery listening on.
He says his “heart is elsewhere” and he wants to spend more time with his children and less time with MPs in Parliament.
“They said to me, on Sunday, they looked at me, and they said, dad, this is your last chance to be a proper dad. And it’s time to come home, dad.”
