Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka predicts the industry will operate without significant pandemic disruptions by next winter and Virgin Australia plans to recapture one third of domestic air travel.
She’s reluctant to discuss her own reported comments last May about Australians needing to accept COVID-19 deaths. “It wasn’t my best couple of days but the narrative has shifted and that’s the most important thing,” she said.
“Sometimes there is a catalyst to shift the narrative.”
She says Virgin was in the process of resuming normal operations, including finding aircraft.
“We’re standing everybody back up,” she says.
“We fully intend to be 33 per cent of the Australian domestic market. We’re really confident the direction of travel is now open. It will take three-to-six months to let the dust settle and then we’re all good.”
