NSW’s new Premier, Dominic Perrottet, says the state is reopening on Monday.
“I don’t want to go back into lockdown,” he said. “Now, we’re committed to the national road map, and that is clearly set out in the Doherty report that, from time to time, there may be the need for targeted restrictions. But ultimately, we’ve got to learn to live alongside this virus, and vaccination has been the key to doing it. That ensures we don’t go backwards.
“This virus is not going away. It will be with us. It’s part of life. And the way that we can protect the healthcare of our people is through vaccination.”
“We aren’t opening up on Monday because of the government. We’re opening up on Monday because of our people and the sacrifices and effort they have made.”
