NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says no decision has been made about releasing regional NSW from lockdowns.
First, vaccination rates would have to rise in line with metropolitan parts of the state, he adds.
Moreover, life would not look the same as it did pre-lockdown.
“There is an opportunity to open but I would argue it would be in a restricted environment, not like the environment pre-lockdown,” Mr Barilaro says.
Gladys Berejiklian says there will be an announcement tomorrow about the status of lockdown in areas outside Sydney.
“We always like to tell people what to expect beyond a particular date and we’ve always said we’ll let the rural and regional communities know with enough notice what life is like from September 11,” she says.
“A pandemic means that you base your evidence, your advice on the best health advice at the particular point in time and you make sure that you provide comprehensive information when you get it.
“So we’ll be going through those processes this afternoon and we hope to be in a position to advise the community tomorrow.”
