Victoria records 176 new COVID-19 cases, Qld records one new case

Victoria has recorded 176 new local coronavirus cases overnight – up 50 cases from yesterday.

Queensland has recorded one new local case of coronavirus.

The new case – the first case of community transmission in Queensland in three weeks – was a Gold Coast truck driver who had travelled into NSW, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told state parliament.

The truck driver was potentially infectious on the Gold Coast for five days last week.

A school on the Gold Coast has also been closed after students to the school were revealed to have recently come from Melbourne.

The family, who had driven back to Queensland via inland routes, have been put into hotel quarantine for two weeks. They have refused to be tested or give any information of their whereabouts to Queensland Health.

“We will get more cases but that’s why it’s important that everyone gets vaccinated,” Palaszczuk said.

“If NSW is the model of what awaits us then we need to have a serious conversation about our options.”
