Queensland confirms 500 bed quarantine facility

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who is holding a press conference at the Wellcamp Airport in Toowoomba west of Brisbane, is reaffirming her push for a second regional quarantine facility.

“It is a no brainer. People from Queensland come up to me all the time and say we don’t need people in hotel quarantine,” she says.

“Our hotels are not meant to be the last line of defence to deal with a global pandemic.

“We need to make sure we have good quarantine facilities in regional centres to take the pressure off hotel quarantine.”

Queensland will now build its own regional quarantine facility in Toowoomba after striking a deal with the Wagner family.

This will be a 500 bed facility up and running by the end of the year, with 1000 bed capacity by early next year.

“The best way to keep delta out of Queensland is to build a regional facility,” she says.
