Five dead, 262 new cases in NSW

Five people have died overnight in NSW due to coronavirus.The state is also reporting 262 new cases.

Four of the five people who died had not been vaccinated, the fifth had received one dose.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a snap lockdown for the Newcastle and Hunter regions from 5pm tonight.

The lockdown will last for one week with restrictions to mirror the current health orders in Greater Sydney.

“The local government areas impacted are Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Cessnock, Dungog, Singleton and Muswellbrook,” Ms Berejiklian says.

“These community leaders and local leaders are being advised of this.”
