The 2022 finish date for Melbourne’s West Gate Tunnel is under review, as a contract stoush between Transurban and subcontractors over contaminated soil pushes on.
In its half year results released on Tuesday, the toll road giant – who approached Labor to build the tunnel before they were elected to government in 2014 – noted the “project schedule is under review”.
Joint venture builders CPB Contractors and John Holland have tried to terminate their subcontract over an issue with soil contamination at the site, including its disposal, but Transurban say it does not consider the contract to have been validly terminated.
