Qantas ‘sound’ despite economic gloom

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce says the carrier is well placed despite business and consumer confidence falling at the same time as the Australian dollar.

Mr Joyce told shareholders at Friday’s annual general meeting in Adelaide that Qantas’s sound fundamentals would carry it through the tougher conditions.

He pointed to the record first-quarter revenue reported on Thursday and the impact on demand of a rebounding resources market.
